Whaddon Medical Centre

Bletchley, Milton Keynes

Project Info:

Situated on the site of an old nursing home, Avebury designed and procured a new medical centre for a well established Milton Keynes practice. The two-storey building complies fully with Milton Keynes Environmental policy D4 which requires carbon emissions to be 25% less than those allowed by Building Regulations.

This has been achieved by using a highly insulated timber frame system along with solar thermal and photovoltaic panels to all units. The policy also requires a Sustainable Urban Drainage System, water butts, reduced internal water consumption, storage for compost and recycling, covered cycle storage, building materials specified in relation to their Green Guide Rating, and a construction Waste Management Plan. The design provides a light and airy, naturally ventilated, day-lit building which aims to improve the well-being of patients from the moment they arrive.
